A big (very big) female Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) called Abigail. She is part of the Acacia Camp pair on the Athi Plains. She, along with Akhil, successfully raised a big female chick this year.

Athi Long-exposure

From one of my worst nights in the field to date, but at least I got a nice memento: a long exposure shot of the barnyard we stayed in (minus cows and their faeces). It was an interesting might-a cobra caught and killed in the chicken coop resulting in a research assistant too scared to sleep in the shack and instead sought comfort in the car.

This Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture (Gyps rueppellii) was fitted with a GPS/GSM transmitter. Its progress can be seen on an iPad/Android app called ‘MiSavannah’. All proceeds from this app go towards conservation projects in east Africa. Masai Mara, Kenya.
